The Gabay Guro grand gathering of teachers at the Mall of Asia Arena last Saturday became a venue for the grand launch of a most inspiring song titled Believing in Me written by the husband and wife tandem of Raul and Cacai Mitra.
The song, recorded for free by no less than the Songbird herself, Regine Velasquez, calls it her gift for the teachers. It is a mirror of every person’s heart of gratefulness for their unsung heroes in the classrooms, the teachers who have labored hard and dedicated the best years of their lives to our education. Regine’s video dedicating the song to the teachers kicked off the ceremonies.
Believing in Me is officially the PLDT Gabay Guro’s tribute song to all the Filipino teachers.
PLDT Gabay Guro chairman Chaye Cabal-Revilla said they are truly touched by the words of the song and they are in deep gratitude to those who made this tribute song happen. “It is really so nice of Regine and of the talented couple to accommodate us with this beautiful song. It sums up pretty much all we have to say about our teachers. We are making it the official theme song of the Gabay Guro teachers,” she said.
PLDT chairman Manny V. Pangilinan shares the same sentiment. He is the pillar behind this undertaking and confesses that this gathering is one of his favorite events. He was present, like in the other years, during the celebration to give his invaluable support to the teachers.
The song’s lyrics are heartfelt experiences of every student who finds love and careful guidance from their teachers as they were growing up. “Our teachers are like parents to us most of the time, molding us and helping us to believe in ourselves. For that alone, we truly are grateful to our teachers,” the songwriters said.
“You’ve been my strength, as well as my friend. Inspiring me every now and then.
To reach for my hopes and dreams that seemed so far away.
I look up to you for all that you are, a guiding light through the dark at night.
You let me see all I can be. Thank you for believing.
For all the lives you’re changing, thank you for believing in me.”
The Gabay Guro grand gathering is an annual celebration where about 30,000 teachers troop to the venue for a day of inspiration, fun, music, entertainment and great prizes. This year’s grand prizes are a Stateland, Inc.’s house and lot and a brand-new Foton utility van. Celebrity guests have signed up to give cheers to the teachers among them Anne Curtis, Marian Rivera, Judy Ann Santos, Derek Ramsay, Edu Manzano, Martin Nievera, Pops Fernandez, Jolo Revilla, Rocco Nacino, Daniel Matsunaga, Vin Abrenica, Victor Silayan and John James Uy.
